Resignation by the employee

Staff members may resign from the WSB upon giving the notice required under the contractual terms of their appointment. Resignation should be submitted in writing to the line manager, copying the Senior Management Team member and the local Human Resources team.

Expiration of appointment

Unless renewed or terminated earlier under any of the other provisions in this section, a staff member shall be separated from the service of the WSB upon the expiry of her or his appointment as specified in the employment contract.

Separation by mutual agreement

A staff member can mutually agree with the WSB to separate if such action is in the interest of the WSB. A mutual separation agreement will be signed by both parties.

Termination of appointment by the employer

The WSB may terminate the appointment of a staff member prior to the expiration date of the appointment in accordance with the contractual terms of such appointment or for any of the following reasons:

  • if the necessities of service require abolition of the post or reduction of the staff;
  • if the services of the staff member prove unsatisfactory in accordance with the WSB performance management process;
  • if the staff member is, for reasons of health, incapacitated for further service in accordance with the leave policy;
  • if the conduct of the staff member indicates that the staff member does not meet the highest standards of integrity required by the WSB;
  • if facts related to the appointment of the staff member and relevant to their suitability come to light that, if they had been known at the time of her or his appointment, would have precluded their appointment.

Retirement

Staff employment contracts come to an end on attainment of the retirement age applicable in the staff’s host country labour laws. At the discretion of the Secretary General exceptions can be considered.

Death

A staff member’s appointment shall expire on the death of the staff member.
