Below is a summary of practical information that can be useful to support your relocation to the Global Support Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Visa and Work Permit
After arriving in Malaysia on a single-entry visa, we can begin the process of applying for your employment pass. For this, please share the following with us:
- A copy of the bio page of your passport (as well as any dependents, if applicable).
- A soft copy of your passport-sized photo with a blue background.
- Certificate of your highest educational qualification.
- If applicable:
-
- Marriage certificate.
- Birth certificates of your children.
Once you arrive in Malaysia, you will have to pass your passport (as well as any dependents, if applicable) to the Human Resources (HR) team.
- Your passport (as well as any dependents, if applicable).
- Two passport-size photographs with a blue background.
HR will submit your passport and other documents to the relevant government ministries to obtain your employment pass.
If you are already living in Malaysia at the start of your employment with the WSB, the process will be different. Please connect with HR for more information.
Relocation
HR will inform you once approval for you to travel to Malaysia is granted by the government. With that approval, you will agree with HR on a travel itinerary, and HR (through Shanji Rajin Indran) will purchase a one-way air ticket from your home country to Kuala Lumpur for you and eligible dependents.
Accommodation for the First Month
Before your travel, HR (through Shanji Rajin Indran) will provide suggestions for your temporary accommodation for a maximum of 30 days. You can also choose your own place if you wish, based on the allowance provided by the WSB (as per your employment contract). Once in Kuala Lumpur, the WSB will provide you with information on long-term accommodation that you can choose for yourself.
Shipment of Personal Belongings
You will be entitled to a shipment allowance for personal belongings to Malaysia as per your employment contract. The process for this is as follows:
- Obtain quotations from at least three shipping companies that fit your needs.
- Once you have decided on the company you would like to use, share the three quotations with HR for approval.
- You can ask the shipping company to make the invoice out to:
World Scout Bureau
Suite 3, Level 1, Menara Sentral Vista
Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad
50470 Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia
Bank Account
The WSB will help you open a local bank account. Banks require proof of an employment pass before you can open an account.
If you need to make payments in Malaysia before you have a local account, such as a deposit on an apartment or school fees for your children, do not hesitate to ask HR for support with an advance.
Health Insurance
The WSB registers new hires under its group health medical plan. This means that you and your dependents will be covered by health insurance from the first day of your employment. A copy of the health policy will be emailed to you, so that you can get a better understanding of the coverage and how to make an insurance claim.

More information can be found in the WSB staff handbook and on the Staff Support Centre.
