Grading System

The One WSB implements a grading system based on the Hay Grade System which is a common method used by organisations to define position grades, salary and compensation in the context of an organisation’s structure and locations.

The One WSB Job Grading System is used to:

  1. Define the classification of position grades
  2. Ensure fair and equitable compensation for all staff
  3. Benchmark compensation across Support Centres, reflecting the cost of living and the local job market

One WSB compensation structure

Each position is accorded a WSB Job Grade based on 4 criteria:

  • Required skills (level of technical skills and specialization)
  • Required experience
  • Responsibility level in the organisation
  • Complexity of the role

For each Support Centre, the WSB Job Grade defines a “base salary range” for a similar role and criteria within the non-profit sector on the local job market, reflecting the cost of living, where the Support Centre is located.

  • A “base salary range” is defined according to a 3-value scale (P25-P50-P75) which reflects the percentile of the local job market remunerated at this rate.
  • When an appointment is made, a base salary in this scale will be assigned reflecting the level of skills and experience the appointee brings to the role, while ensuring equity to other positions in the same WSB Job Grade.
  • Depending on the terms and conditions of employment contracts in each Support Centre, staff may be eligible for additional compensation in the form of allowances as part of the compensation structure.

We regularly review our practices for consistency with those of other international organisations and NGOs.
